Exams for Contact Lenses
Whether you wear contact lenses when playing sports, working, going out or every day, we can prescribe the best lenses for your needs. In addition to the optical correction of your eyes, a contact lens prescription contains detailed information about the design of the lens. Our doctor will take a thorough history and precise measurements of your eyes during your exam to support proper vision and comfort before prescribing contact lenses to you.
How to Prepare for Your Contact Lens Eye Exam
If you’re a new patient at Excel Optometry, please bring your last prescription for contact lenses or the box of contact lenses you currently wear with you, if possible. We also ask that you bring your insurance card if you have vision insurance.
A contact lens exam typically has a few more steps than an eyeglass exam, as we need to determine the size of your eyes and if any astigmatism is present to find the best contact lens for you. A contact lens exam is done in addition to your comprehensive eye exam.
After your contact lens exam, you’ll get a prescription and a pair of contact lenses to try. We then schedule a follow-up visit to see how you did with the contact lenses or if we need to try another pair.
If you wear contact lenses, we recommend getting your eyes examined annually. Depending on eye health, some people may need their eyes examined more often. Your eye doctor can let you know how often you need to come in for a contact lens eye exam.
