LASIK Eye Surgery
At Excel Optometry, our eye care solutions aren’t limited to contact lenses and eyeglasses. We also help patients with life-changing technology to permanently improve their vision. If you currently depend on corrective lenses to see clearly, LASIK eye surgery could be the right solution for you. While we don’t perform this procedure in-office, we do offer a pre-op consultation to determine if you’re a good candidate for LASIK.
What Is Refractive Eye Surgery?
Refractive eye surgery essentially reshapes your cornea to help you see better. LASIK stands for laser assisted in situ keratomileusis, a procedure which uses a laser to shape the cornea. Your cornea is a dome-shaped structure at the front of your eye. In people who have proper vision, the cornea diverts light to the retina, but in people who have nearsightedness or farsightedness, the light is not altered correctly due to the shape of the cornea.
If you’ve been using glasses or contacts but want to have perfect vision without having to rely on these measures, you may be a candidate for LASIK.
Vision Issues LASIK Can Correct
LASIK eye surgery can correct the following conditions:
- Nearsightedness, which is when the cornea has an angle that’s too curved for light to refract properly, resulting in difficulty seeing things far away.
- Farsightedness, which is when the cornea is too flat, and light surpasses the retina instead of going on it, making things up close seem blurry.
- Astigmatism. If the cornea is uneven and results in astigmatism, it can lead to blurry vision for objects both close up and far away.
